The Roundtable brings together representatives of the recycling industry, main customer segments, voluntary standard systems, civil society, metals industry associations, academic researchers and other relevant organizations.
It is set up for a limited time to develop a roadmap for the responsible recycling of metals. This will be informed by best practices and defined actions based on gaps found through our research, assessments and working groups.

Objectives
The Roundtable’s main objective is to ensure circular economies rely on recycled metals that do not harm people or the environment. The RRRM looks to connect existing bodies of work and support the development and provision of appropriate standards, systems and tools for the responsible production and sourcing of recycled metals. Responsible production and sourcing refer to business practices that respect human and labour rights, protect the environment and contribute to sustainable development as defined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.As the world’s demand for metals continues to grow, it is more important than ever to adopt a circular economy approach to resource management.

Why a Roundtable on Responsible Recycling of Metals?
Climate action has risen to the top of today’s political and business agenda. Businesses are looking to transition away from linear production models to a more circular economy where materials are re-used and recycled. However, the standards, systems and tools available to date are not fully equipped to address the needs around transparency, responsible sourcing and responsible production of recycled metals.
